7th graders used Google's Tourbuilder to create a Wild and Wacky World Tour. They selected a letter of the alphabet and all the places they visited began with that letter. They traveled by plane, train, and boat and visited all 5 continents. They also chose a theme from a bowl and this theme guided in what/where they visited.

Ms. Jacoby's US History 2 Classes Expand Their Understanding of Our Nation's Past by Exploring Primary Sources!
Recently, students studied the primary sources connected with the Battle of Little Big Horn. Each set of students was assigned a different historical group (US Army, Sioux Leaders, US Government and Sioux Fighters) and had to determine from their group’s perspective what happened at Little Big Horn. Classes also had a Historian group ask questions to determine what really happened and then synthesized the material and present the summary to the class.

Ms. Schoppa's Class Creates Figurative Language Masterpieces...with Gears!
In 8th grade Engineering class, students learned to design and format gears using gear generator, Inkscape, and Adobe Illustrator. They prototyped a gear toy with meshing spur gears. Then, they studied poetry containing figurative language. Students wrote their poem draft with Ms. Craddock’s help. Ms. Linville also edited some of the poems and provided feedback to students. We had a poetry slam in Engineering class. Each student read their poem aloud and class mates gave feedback and editing advice.
Next, students designed a gear mechanism to illustrate their poem. The gears had to mesh and be working gears. Cardboard prototypes were laser cut and tested for meshing. Finally, poems were etched into wood and gears cut using the laser cutter. Students then used 4 color stains to finish their gears. They assembled them onto 8x8 laser cut display boards using book binding posts. With velcro, each student’s project was attached to a rolling display board to be shared around the school. This was a challenging, but rewarding PBL project.

Mr. Shedd's US History 1 classes use CAD software to create models of inventions of the 1800s! Students researched four inventions that helped Western Movement across the US. After completing their research, each student chose one invention to make in Autodesk. By making a 3D representation of the invention, students are better able to understand how it worked.
